The tour, which is approximately 26 km long, starts and ends in Weinböhla, right next to the Tourist Information office at the Zentralgasthof Weinböhla. Right at the start, in the old town center, the local history museum in the historic “Peterkeller” winery awaits us with a permanent exhibition on the history of the town and viticulture.
The historic winery, the Ratsweinberg vineyard with its watchtower, and the Königliche Weinberg vineyard are the first wine-related highlights of the tour. The route continues to the “Im Waldacker” winery and over the Gellertberg—with its open-air stage —to Oberau Moated Castle, one of the oldest surviving moated castles in Germany. If you’re looking to cool off in the summer, be sure to plan a stop at the Waldbad Oberau. By bike, you can enjoy the views of the Nassau Landscape Conservation Area and continue toward Meissen to the Meissen Winegrowers’ Cooperative. This association of local winemakers has existed since 1938; they cultivate approximately 145 hectares of vineyards in the mild climate of the Elbe Valley. The Wine Experience Center, featuring the wine shop, is well worth a visit. The route continues past the vineyards of the “Proschwitzer Katzensprung” before joining the Elbe Cycle Route and leading along the river with a view of Meissen’s historic old town. Here, it’s also worth taking a detour to the other side of the Elbe to explore Albrechtsburg Castle, the cathedral, and the countless alleys of the old town.
Along the Elbe Cycle Route, more vineyards and their associated wineries await on the left. The Schwarz Winery, Mariaberg Winery, and Vincenz Richter Winery are all among the very popular Meissen wine stops along the way.
Coswig, along with the district of Sörnewitz—just a few hundred meters further on—also has plenty to offer wine lovers. The Schuh Winery and the Henke Winery are both worth a detour. The route continues below the striking Boselspitze along the Spaargebirge, offering opportunities for further wine discoveries along the way. Here, too, the occasional wine tavern beckons with Saxon hospitality, before the tour leads back to the starting point in Weinböhla via beautiful country roads through the Nassau region.

- The tour begins in the center of Weinböhla, in front of the Zentralgasthof at the Tourist Information office. It leads northeast across Kirchplatz, past the historic Peterkeller Winery and the local history museum, onto Sachsenstraße, crosses the railroad tracks, and then turns left onto Weingartenstraße at Sachsenplatz. Follow this street and continue straight ahead at the next intersection onto Grenzstraße. Turn left at Waldacker and then immediately right onto Scheringstraße until you see Gellertberg on your right. Continue uphill on the forest road and turn left immediately afterward onto Oberer Buschmühlenweg. At the next intersection, turn left through the tunnel and ride through the town of Oberau along Großdobritzer Straße and Thomas-Müntzer-Ring until you reach the moated castle. Then turn left through the adjacent park and continue along the street “Am Mühlhübel” to Niederau. Cross the town via Teichstraße and Kirchstraße, then turn right onto Meißner Straße. After entering Meißen, turn right onto Leitmeritzer Bogen, continue along it, and then turn left onto Smetanastraße. At the next intersection, turn right onto Gabelsberger Straße, cross Großenhainer Straße, and continue straight ahead on Bennoweg to the Meissen Winegrowers’ Cooperative. After your visit, cycle back a short distance, turn right onto Joachimsthal, and continue straight ahead until you reach Proschwitzer Weg. At the roundabout, turn left onto Heiligen Grund and follow it until it joins the Elbe Cycle Path on the right via Hafenstraße. Cycle along the Elbe through Meissen and follow the signs to Coswig-Sörnewitz. There, leave the bike path to the left, turn left onto Dresdner Straße toward Boselspitze, and just before reaching it, turn right again onto Boselweg.
Ride straight ahead on Zaschendorfer Straße, east of the Spaargebirge, and then turn right onto the dirt roads (Mittelweg, Am Pechgraben, Schwarzer Weg), following the signs to Weinböhla. There, pass the Weinböhla windmill on your left, turn right onto Ehrlichtweg, and then right again onto Mittelweg. At the next intersection, turn left onto Zaschendorfer Weg and take the second right onto Bahndammweg. Cross the tracks via “Tiefen Weg,” turn left onto “An der Nassau,” and then ride back along Dresdner Straße to return to the starting point in front of the Zentralgasthof.
